Removing smoke odor from a fire can be a challenging task. But our job is never complete until there is not a hint of smoke odor.

  • Odor Removal
  • Smoke results from incomplete combustion of solid particles (soot) and oils and gases. This odor occurs when volatile molecules are released following a fire and often lingers long after the visible smoke is cleared.

  • Remove the Source
  • The first and most crucial step in odor control is to remove the source of the odors. All burned or charred structure must be removed at once. Next, other burnt materials such as cabinets, furniture, drywall, non-salvageable contents will need to be removed and discarded. Finally, content and structural cleaning must be completed so all soot and smoke will be eliminated.

  • Clean the Air Ducts
  • Cleaning the duct system in a home is a vital step of the process in smoke odor removal. In every fire, even if very minimal, smoke, soot and odors from a fire enter and remain in the duct system. A complete fire cleaning of the HVAV system and ducts is necessary to remove odors.

  • Removing Airborne Odor
  • Many of the volatile molecules of smoke remain airborne, so there are several proven technologies that eliminate smoke and odor from the air. Tampa Fire Restoration uses a variety of methods depending on the circumstances:

    • Air Scrubbing- We use a HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arrestor) Air Scrubber throughout our restoration activities. These units are very effective at removing 99.97% of particulates from the air that are 0.3 microns and larger in size.

    • Hydroxyl- We’ve had major success using hydroxyl cleaning machines in the deodorization of fires. These systems use green technology to provide the most effective and efficient solution to eliminate odors, decontaminate surfaces and purify the air.

    • Thermal fogging-Fogging counteracts odorous molecules by using fragrance modification for permanent odor neutralization.

    • Ozone treatment- Professional fire restorers and some dry cleaners use a deodorizing process that actually breaks up the smoke molecule to eliminate the odor. This deodorization process is called the ozone treatment and removes airborne smoke odor molecules, including hard-to-neutralize protein smoke. But it can only be used in an ozone chamber or the residents, as well as pets, must evacuate during treatments.

Call Tampa Fire Restoration for any fire, smoke or soot damage regardless of the circumstance. We have well-trained professional technicians who provide the latest state-of-the-science services to all fire damaged property.
